Hope you all had a grand Christmas. I had my daughter, granddaughter and grandson #2 home for a week during Christmas and then the weekend after Christmas I had 2 of my boys home. As nice as it is to have everyone home at once, it is also nice to break it up and have the holidays last a bit longer.
We didn’t have our white Christmas as hoped for, but I have no doubt that snow will show up eventually. We did get an opportunity to take a trip to go ice skating at Siskiyou Ice Rink in Mt. Shasta. I had never been there before so it was nice to finally check it out with all three grandchildren.
The rink is a national hockey size outdoor seasonal rink that has been up and running for several years. It is located in Shastice Park at the base of Mt. Shasta with views of both the majestic Mt. Shasta as well as Black Butte and Mount Eddy.
It was a cold day so everyone was bundled up. We all rented our skates and headed onto the ice. All the littles hadn’t skated before, or not in quite a while, so it took them a bit to get the hang of it. They do have the trainers or walkers to help the kids (or adults) stay upright on the ice so that was convenient for some of us. When we got too cold or needed a break, we could get some hot chocolate and sit by the fire for a bit. If you want to know more about the Siskiyou Ice Rink, visit their website here for prices, directions, times and any events going on. They do offer lessons, hockey and other community happenings.
We were there for only a few hours but it was nice to be outside breathing the fresh air next to the amazing mountain. The rink was awesome. I highly recommend checking it out if you are in the area. It’s a nice location to take the kids. When we were there, they had a large pile of snow next to the rink where some kids were playing around with snow skates. I would imagine during the times when there is a lot of snow on the ground there would be a lot more snow related fun going on . The park is also home to the city’s soccer fields and bike trail. It is a nice park to visit so matter what the season.
Have you been to the Siskiyou Rink yet?
How about skiing on Mt. Shasta? I got the chance to ski a bit with my son and grandson last weekend. We went up to the Mt. Shasta Ski Park. Grandson is just learning to board so it was a slow day but it felt so nice to be back on the mountain. I used to spend a lot of time up there when my kids were in high school. They were all on the high school ski/board team and I was an assistant coach. I definitely miss those days on the mountain.
Grandson #1 did pretty well learning to board. It was his first time up there this season and last year he was up just once or twice. A few more times and he’ll have it down pat. Mt. Shasta is a great place to learn snowboarding or skiing. Give it a try if you haven’t yet.
We may not have had snow in the yard but we had several fun-in-the-snow days. It was a great holiday week with family. I got to spend quality time with my daughter and grandchildren who live out of state and I had two of my boys home for the weekend after Christmas. I was just missing son #3 but I’m thankful I had him home the month before.
Hope you all have a Happy New Year!
