Happy Easter everyone. Hope you all had a great day.
I splurged recently and purchased several larger urns. I am in love with all of these!
I thought I would share them and the plants I put inside them.
These are called the Kylemore Self-Watering Urn Planter from Gardener’s Supply. I bought 2 of the black and 2 of the grey.
I really love the size of these. They are 20″ in diameter and 19″ tall. They have a 3 3/4 quart water reservoir for the self-watering feature which I love. It really helps me out so that I can put plants in an area where I don’t have any direct watering ability. I don’t have to stretch the hose to these planters quite as much as when I have to water every day during our hot summers.
I positioned the black ones in front of the garage, one on either side of the roll up door. In them I planted a red cordyline surrounded with yellow pansies. I thought the black pots with the yellow would look great against my red house, not realizing that the red cordyline would get lost against the red. May have to change that up at some point. But for now it’s staying.
I placed the grey ones by one of our fire pits. I planted some baby blue spruce in them surrounded by a mix of pansies. I may switch these with the black ones, although I think the spruce will do well here, so maybe not.
I really like the size of these planters. They are a sturdy plastic resin (Copolymer resin, polypropylene per the website) and I think they will do well in my area.
I found these next urns at my local Walmart. They are a bit smaller, made of some sort of resin or heavy plastic. They are a bit heavier and really strong. They measure 18.6″ tall by 17″ wide. I planted these up with Euonymus Japonicus surrounded by some spring colored Primrose. I love this combination. The Primrose really pop against the white planters.
I ordered 2 sets of urns from Hayneedle. I have ordered several quality items from them for the garden and I love every one of them.
I was looking for a taller urn and although I would love the concrete products, I just can’t afford that so I often opt for a fiber stone which is a lightweight fiberglass cast in sand and stone mix. It looks like concrete but is a ton lighter. It’s a good, much cheaper option for those who can’t afford concrete.
The taller urn measures 21″ wide and 30″ tall. I had the taller one picked out and then I saw the shorter one and fell in love with it’s details. So I got them both. The smaller one measures 18″ wide by 25″ tall. Just a bit smaller.
I filled the larger ones up with Dianthus and the smaller ones with some struggling ranunculus and some trailing sedums.
I love both of these urns very much. I’m thinking of getting more but not sure where I would put them sooo – maybe not just yet.
I actually really love ALL of these planters. I am getting much more into planters and the self-watering feature is really nice in my yard. I have always had flower pots but mostly on a smaller scale. It is nice to have larger ones.
Go explore and find some new planters for your yard. I think you will be glad you did.
