Mail Order Annuals

I wanted some annuals for my large Crescent Garden containers which I talked about in this post, which meant that I needed quite a few. I wanted something different than I could find in my local stores but did not want to pay a fortune.

What I was thinking was a petunia that spread quite a bit so that it would trail over the sides of my pots.

I kept pouring over the catalogs, checking prices. I did not want to pay those prices. Park Seed had some bundles of Petunias. They weren’t too bad but still more than I wanted to pay. I waited and pondered, and hoped maybe my local stores would get something in.

I went back on line to check things out again. Oh look at that! Park Seed had put their bundles on discounted prices. I could do that price.

I ordered 40 plants of the Evening Scentsation Petunia and 40 plants of the Deep Purple Shock Wave Petunia. Both grow to about 3′ wide and the Scentsation has an amazing fragrance.

These were plants that came in a small 2″ x 2″ pot. I didn’t know quite what to expect as I had never ordered annuals online before.

I was pleasantly surprised. The plants came boxed 10 per box. They were individually wrapped in a plastic bag and then in cardboard framed around each plant individually and then placed inside the outer box. Very secure and safe.

The plants themselves were beautiful. Not too large but for the size of the pot, they had quite a bit of nice foliage and beautiful blooms. I was impressed!

Both varieties came packaged the same way. Both are beautiful.

I had 8 pots to fill. I mixed these 2 varieties together with some pink wave petunias I picked up at my local Walmart and loaded up the pots. They looked so nice. I can’t wait for them to fill in.

We’ll see how they perform for me before I make a judgment call on whether I will order like this again.

But I do like them and am excited to see what they deliver.

Did you order any plants this year?
